More than £800 raised at Ankerside’s Macmillan event

More than £800 raised at Ankerside’s Macmillan event

Ankerside Shopping Centre’s Macmillan Coffee Morning has been a huge success, with kind-hearted event-goers donating close to £850.

A hive of activity took place at the Tamworth shopping centre over the course of three days, beginning with a mug decoration craft at its popular kids’ club, ‘Stay & Play’. Visitors were able to put their creation forward to be sold during the main fundraising day.

The Macmillan fundraising team was also present and hosted a teddy-themed tombola on the mall, with top prizes being snapped up. Shoppers also purchased raffle tickets and took part in a funfair game, as well as tucking into a range of tasty treats provided by Druckers café, with all proceeds going to charity.

The height of the event was the centre’s Macmillan Coffee Morning, where visitors flocked in their droves to get together and enjoyed hot drinks and a selection of delicious cakes in exchange for a small donation.

Ankerside’s manager, Mark Burbridge, said he is delighted by the success of the Macmillan Cancer Support fundraiser. “Our seventh Coffee Morning has been absolutely fantastic, with people from every corner of the community showing their support for the incredible work of Macmillan.

“It’s an event the centre team and our wonderful visitors look forward to each year, as it’s a brilliant opportunity to give back to the charity, which helps so many people far and wide,” said Mark. “We all had huge amounts of fun taking part in the activities and eating lots of delicious, guilt-free cakes and bakes.

Mark continued: “I’d like to say a special ‘thank you’ to Ankerside’s shoppers for once again digging deep with donations for this tremendous cause. Macmillan Cancer Support will be thrilled and so grateful for the money raised.”

Claire Morden, treasurer of the Lichfield & Tamworth Villages Committee, said: “As always, the Ankerside team is very supportive of Macmillan Cancer Support.  The staff there give up their days off to come and help us, which is so kind and thoughtful of them.

“We are very lucky to have such a big, local company behind us at every turn because where the money is raised, is where is stays so we really are helping local people.”
