Following months of feverish anticipation, things are revving up for the debut car boot sale at Ankerside Shopping Centre in just a few days’ time.

From 10am until 2pm on Sunday 3 March, members of the public are invited to explore a brilliant selection of interesting articles, rare finds, vintage valuables and more at the first-ever car boot bonanza on Level B of Ankerside’s car park.

Entry is free for bargain hunters who will be spoiled for choice from the 45 sellers lined-up for the launch. The car boot sale will run on the first Sunday of each month thereafter.

The all-new offering has been brought to town by Ankerside and local charity, Together 4 Tamworth which have joined forces to help raise essential funds for the ever-popular Tamworth Carnival, as well as assisting other charities supported by the Mayor.

Mark Burbridge, centre manager at Ankerside Shopping Centre, says the interest in the car boot sale has been phenomenal. “When introducing something new to the shopping centre experience you can never be certain what the response will be, but we have been blown away by how incredibly well this initiative has been received by the community.

“We’re really proud to be supporting Tamworth Carnival, which is organised by Together 4 Tamworth. The event is such a highlight in the town’s calendar and is enjoyed by thousands each year, so we’re delighted to be helping it continue.

“There’s also a feeling of nostalgia with visiting car boot sales – it’s a great, Sunday pastime where families and friends can spend a few, leisurely hours together seeking out gems,” Mark continued.

“We offer great, local days out at Ankerside and with free parking every Sunday, we hope many will start a new tradition of visiting the car boot sale and marvelling at their new purchases over a well-earned coffee and cake in the centre.

“The buzz surrounding the addition of the car boot sale is increasing by the day and it’s going to be fantastic for the town. We can’t wait to welcome everyone this weekend and hope for much success with it,” Mark concluded.

Gary Hunt, events organiser at Together 4 Tamworth, said: “This is a great opportunity for Tamworth and Ankerside to bring lots of people into our beautiful town centre on a Sunday.

Due to bad weather, so many car boot sales have to close over the winter period but with ours in Ankerside, we’re able to open 12 months of the year.

“All money raised is going to help run the Tamworth Carnival on Saturday 1 June, as well as the Mayor of Tamworth, Peter Thurgood’s charity, Headways,” continued Gary.

“This would not happen without the great help and support from all Together 4 Tamworth members, Peter Thurgood, Tamworth Council and not forgetting a massive thank you to Mark Burbridge, Ankerside staff and the owner of the shopping centre for letting us use the car park free of charge.

Gary concluded: “A big, massive thank you to all the car boot-ers and the 22,000 people on Facebook who have shared our information and showed wonderful support.”

Sellers can pre-book a parking space for the next car boot sales for £7 by contacting Gary Hunt from Together 4 Tamworth on 07709 746748.

The indoor car boots sale on Level B of Ankerside Shopping Centre’s car park launches on Sunday 3 March from 10am until 2pm. The car boot sale will run on the first Sunday of every month. Parking and entry is free all day for visitors.
