In just a few days’ time, Ankerside Shopping Centre will add a new offer to its line-up in the shape of a craft market, which will offer top products from a variety of stallholders.

Bert & Gert’s Market is set to open on Saturday 25 May from 10am until 5pm, and Sunday 26 May between 10am and 4pm throughout themalls from Clock Court down to AB’s Café.

Shoppers will be able to get their hands on a host of fantastic goodies including handmade gifts, personalised items, food, jewellery, leathergoods, as well as glass and homeware and more from a selection of exhibitors.

Started through a love of arts and crafts in 2012, Bert & Gert’s is run by Birmingham-based brothers Mark and Jason Wilkes. It was named in honour of their late grandparents, with Bert being their paternal grandfather and Gert their maternal grandmother.

Mark Burbridge, centre manager at Ankerside, said the new addition to the centre is set to enhance the shopping experience for visitors further. Following its debut at the weekend, the market will return again in July and October.

Mark said: “We have been following the success of Bert & Gert’s Market for a while now and believe it’s something that Tamworth will really love. Shoppers looking for one-of-a-kind presents and high-quality products will be in for a treat, as we’ve had a preview of what will be on offer and it really is superb.

“Championing small, independent traders is also incredibly important to us, as there’s nothing like showing support for the local business community,” he continued. “The market also complements our strong range of retailers, so this is a great way to showcase the brilliance of shopping locally. We wish Mark, Jason and all the exhibitors a successful launch event.”

Bert & Gert’s also organises and runs arts and crafts events around the country, with partners including Business Improvement Districts, shopping centres, local authorities and tourist attractions and Create & Craft TV, working together to the benefit of the venues, their traders and the wider local community.

Bert & Gert’s also has its own craft range, designed by Jason and he appears on Create & Craft TV to demonstrate and sell their products. Jason said: “We are very proud that our events have a community feel, as all the traders are supportive of each other.

“We want to give them the opportunity to grow their hobbies and passions into successful sustainable businesses and we delighted to be working with Ankerside to achieve that goal.”
