Saturday 13th July saw Tamworth transformed into a vibrant rainbow of colour as the town hosted its annual Pride event. Locals gathered to enjoy a day filled with music, dance, food and fun, with festivities based in the heart of the town centre for the first time.
Taking place in the parkland surrounding the castle, the main stage featured an array of talented performers. Musicians delivered captivating performances, drag queens dazzled the audience with their stunning outfits and charismatic acts, whilst dancers kept the crowd entertained with their dynamic routines. The performers’ exuberant energy was infectious, creating an electric atmosphere that resonated throughout the festival grounds.
Ankerside joined in the celebrations with Castle Square being taken over by the UP Creative Community who organised a special pop-up event that combined live music from artists such as Bala and Jake with a variety of arts and crafts. This creative hub allowed festival-goers to engage with local artists, participate in crafting activities, and enjoy spontaneous musical performances.
Mark Burbridge Centre Manager said “It was a privilege for Ankerside to be part of an event that celebrates diversity and inclusivity. I think relocating the event to the town centre really helped as the previous location had less transportation links. This meant this year more people were able to experience the event and the retailers loved being able to show their support too.”
The one-day event highlighted local talent and fostered a sense of community among attendees. It is hoped the event will be held in the grounds going forwards after such a successful turn out and warm reception from the local community.
