Today saw the return of the Farplace Animal Rescue Book Club.
This month, the centre welcomed poetry author Diane Parker to share some of her witty poems about her life and the people she meets. The event took place across the Octagon and Farplace Charity store located in the centre, welcoming guests as Diane read extracts from her books such as School Daze: School Rocks in Rah-Rah Frocks and her new book Tyler: Twelve Years of Love.
Diane said of the event “I have really enjoyed the Author’s meet up for Farplace, this was my second time appearing at the book club. It’s great to encourage other readers and potential writers of all ages and walks of life.”
The book club will continue next month with a new guest speaker/author. Visitors can find out who will be attending the next book club, by keeping an eye on our socials or via posters situated around the centre.
Author Biography
Diane was born and raised in the Midlands (UK).
Her inspirational mum introduced the young Diane to films of the 20’s – 40’s, and her sister’s gift of Heidi, awakened Diane’s love of literature. At primary school, a perceptive History teacher noticed Diane’s flare for poetry – a talent that grew in secondary school when she began reading the war poems of Wilfred Owen and Siegfried Sassoon.
Diane’s poem based on the opening scene in Jaws ranked her among one of the top 100 new original poems of the year for the New England Poetry Publication.
