Pedal Power: Specsavers Go the Distance to Raise Money for Charity

Friday 12th July saw the Ankerside Specsavers team take to their bikes to raise money for Birmingham Children’s Hospital. Divided into two teams, the challenge was to cycle 100 miles each on static bikes, kindly provided by The Gym Group Tamworth, before the centre closed for the evening.

Starting bright and early at 8:30am, the challenge begun as team members pedalled with purpose, steadily covering the distance knowing this was a marathon and not a race.

Mark Burbridge Ankerside Centre Manager said “A big congratulations to the team! They really gave it all they’ve got! It was wonderful to hear more about the appeal from staff members and see our shoppers interacting with the team.”

Throughout the day riders were cheered on by shoppers. Their generous donations meant that Specsavers were able to raise over £200 on the day.

Lisa Large spokesperson for Specsavers said “We would like to thank everyone for their support. Birmingham Children’s Hospital is close to our heart. Every penny will go towards doing more for sick kids.”

Specsavers will be hosting another fundraising event in aid of the Kili For Kids appeal on Friday 9th August in the centre. Taking place in Clock Square, the event will include face painting for children, a raffle as well as a colouring competition. For more information on this event, check out our socials.
